Glacier cartographer Elin Ward trusts measurements because memory has already failed her once. When exceptional warm rain wakes a hidden river beneath Haupapa/Tasman Glacier, a collapse exposes the dry bag and warning notebook of her dead sister Rachel—and a route that should not exist.

Below the ice, Elin’s team finds concealed infrastructure, rising pressure and evidence that two experienced men are pursuing incompatible rescue plans. Above them, a school group and an isolated field station are running out of safe ground. Every rope, radio, gate and map mark now changes who can be reached.

To get everyone out, Elin must decide which parts of Rachel’s record were warning, which were misdirection, and whether responsible expertise means following the line—or knowing when the ground has made the line obsolete.

The White Water Below is a technically grounded wilderness adventure about survival, institutional secrecy and the cost of mistaking certainty for truth.
